Natural Remedy for Cough

Coughing is known as one of the most common health problems to many. It happens due to the fact that something is blocking or irritating the throat or the upper air passages. It is never a fun situation especially when you are having a persistent cough breaking silence in any quiet environment. All in all, coughing is just terribly uncomfortable. Here are some natural remedies that are natural and beneficial to control mucus production, cleanse and boost the immune system.

One of the simplest and most popular home remedies for cough is ginger. It helps in reducing cough by drying up a running and dripping nose while expelling phlegm from the respiratory tract. In other words, it helps to soothe the cough making it less irritated. You can cut some fresh ginger into small slices, crush them slightly and put them in a cup of water. Bring them to boil and the ginger solution all ready to drink. It is advisable to drink this ginger tea about three to four times daily to relief from coughing. Addition of lemon juice and honey bring better taste to the remedy. Another method to use ginger as a cough relief is just simply by chewing fresh raw ginger.  

Turmeric is also a natural remedy, which has therapeutic effect on cough. Firstly, you need to heat half a cup of water. Then, add one teaspoon of turmeric powder and black pepper. Bring the mixture to boil for about three to four minutes. You may also add one tablespoon of honey and drink the mixture daily until you can feel improvement in your condition. Another way is adding one teaspoon of turmeric powder and carom seeds to a cup of water and bring to boil until the water reduces to half a cup. Drink this herbal with or without honey few times a day. One last method to use turmeric is to roast the turmeric root and grind into smooth powder. Then, mix it with water and some honey, and it’s all ready to be consumed.  

Another natural remedy for cough is garlic, which has both antibacterial and antimicrobial components that able to help to reduce coughing problem. The method is very simple. All you need to do is boil two to three cloves of garlic and a teaspoon of oregano in a cup of water. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before your drink it. Alternatively, you may eat a clove of crushed garlic that is mixed with a few drops of clove oil and some honey. Garlic helps to alleviate your cough symptoms.   

Thyme, which has antimicrobial properties, is able to relax the muscles of the trachea and bronchi, while opening up airways. These result in less coughing and increase in comfort. All you need are some fresh thyme springs or two tablespoons of dried thyme, eight ounces of fresh water and honey or lemon for better taste. Prepare a tea thyme by first, lightly bruising the thyme, place in a mug and cover with boiling water for about ten to fifteen minutes. Once ready, you may add some honey or lemon and drink it daily.

There are quite a number of natural remedies for cough besides those mentioned above. For example, cinnamon, onion, licorice root tea and salt water are known to be helpful in alleviating cough.
